Thornton

Inzy won the toss and chose to field, as we has Well Warley visited table topping Thornton, not been one of Warley's favourite grounds in the past but that all changed. Thornton's opener Hutchinson batted through their innings for 114 as Thornton mustered 223. The bowlers stuck well to their task in restricting Thornton to this only a par score on their home ground. For a change their was some good fielding, mind you there was also the token dropped catches as well. At 60 for 6 things weren't looking too good for Warley but Chunky and Mrs Buckett set to the task brilliantly. When Chunky was finally out in the 80's only 4 were required for victory, which was achieved when Uzzy smashed his first ball for 6. Luke remained undefeated in the 70's. Luke and Chunky had done such a great demolition job that Warley coasted home with 2 overs to spare, great win boys.

Mytholmoyd

Inzy won the toss and fielded? due to our last 2 victories being batting second. Coco went in to the game carrying a knee injury and looking not to bowl. After 15 overs Warley had used 5 bowlers in an aid to try and stem the flow of runs, which was a shame as we had Mytholmroyd at 19 for 2 and all was looking rosy.Lord And Halstead then put the Warley attack to the sword in good style Halstead being out for 97 and Lord going on to be not out 146 in a measley total of 333 for 4. Not a good day to be a Warley bowler or fielder. Warley then set about the simple task of knocking off 333, no-one really made a great impression with the bat as against some very mediocre bowling Warley scrambled to 182 all out. Not the best of days it has to be said but the way the results went, these 4 points could be invaluable.

Northowram away

Wow what a massive victory and boost to the team this was, especially as we were 96 for 6 chasing only 187 as very modest score at Northowram. Uzzy opened the bowling down the slope, with Coco running up the hill but thankfully this year not into a gale force wind. Uzzy claimed the 1st wicket with Inzy taking a stunning catch at slip, well im sure he'd tell you that. Uzzy bowled a decent opening spell and thankfully no no-balls, although after all the practice last Tuesday on his run up it's a good job the coach had paced his run up out for him at practice as sure enough his reply to the coaches question first thing Saturday "how many paces is your run up then?" reply " Errm can't remember ive forgot" oh dear. Uzzy was replaced by Kevin (as no one has come up with another name for him) he then appeared to have caught the Uzzy disease as he bowled several no balls and a lot of rubbish but then managed to pick up a wicket with a short ball which should have been smashed for 6 but was hit straight down deep square legs throat, Mr Marsh. Kev was then replaced by our new bowling allrounder.....oh no some late news just in Pinhead has been now officially downgraded to a bowler but is doing a great job with the ball for us, yet again tying up an end which is not easy to do on a small Northowam pitch. At the other end Coco was wheeling away with not much luck but as Inzy wished getting through to drinks without too much damage from the bottom end. Northowram weren't in too bad a position with the opener hanging around for a while (somehow) but they the got stuck at around 130 as Luke (also in need of a nickname Mrs Bucket has been mentioned) replaced Coco, he and the Pinmeister got stuck into the batters. Luke bowled with good pace and let the batters know he was about. Luke returning figures of 4 for 39 just too quick for a couple of the batters, meanwhile the Pin had managed to charm Elise into giving him 2 LBW's im sure they weren't even close... NOT. The Pin ending up with great figures of 16 overs 3 for 48 top effort, unfortunately we just couldn't get the final wicket to secure the 3 bowling points. The batting didn't get off to the best of starts to say the least, as Pin the bowler didn't trouble the scorers, Chunky also managed the same feat and then Marshy also soon followed all to the impressive Sam Gardner. Kev and Inzy then put on a bit of a partnership but Kev then fel to the cafeteria bowling of Saghir, to be fair was the right idea to hit it out of the park just didn't hit it straight enough. And then Inzy struck AGAIN as Mr Oates the Warley legend was run out again without troubling the scorers but it was a great piece of fielding with a slide, pick and through and a direct hit. Luke then hung around for a bit before also departing to the slow bowler. At this point we were in a spot of bother at 94 for 6 but with plenty of overs in hand, Inzy then went on to play the best knock I have seen him play for Warley under the circumstances. When Sam came back on the runs stopped from one end Inzy then took it upon himself to ensure they came from the other ends, dispatching Reed for 2 excellent straight sixes straight on the on-side. Jimmy also needs a special mention as he came out under pressure and stuck around with Inzy, at times he couldn't lay a bat on the ball and even when he did the umpire thought he'd missed it, as Elise held her arms out as if to say what you lot appealing for I don't know if he hit it...We know !! Inzy then somehow managed to take the game to the wire and even offered the easiest of catches to get Northowram another bowling point but thankfully they dropped it. So a great win in the end but more required.

Triangle home

Not going to dwell too much on this match report as from a batting point of view there's not much to say.
Yes the pitch was a bit indifferent to say the least and as Pin kept pointing out "it's only a matter of time before a ball has your name on it", think Inzy and Chunky can vouch for that, both getting balls that kept low. Chunky put up a defiant resistance taking the approach if it's up im smashing it. After another sparkling start the Triangle bowlers got smarter pulling their length back making the most of the indifferent bounce, Chunky eventually perishing for 26 LBW. The only other 2 scores of note were the Wily Old Pro with a stubborn 27, before getting a lifter not a shooter. Raufy gave Mr Oates a bit of company making 14 and the extras weighed in with 15.
With the ball we gave Triangle a bit of a scare up front reducing them to 30 for 4. Coco finally getting it together from the scoreboard end with 2 for 19 of 8 and I have to say 8 of those were from shoddy fielding. Uzzy was given the new ball from the downhill schooll end replacing the out of sorts Kiwi but in true Uzzy fashion things didn't start well, 1st ball no-ball which was followed by a few others (pace your run up out Uzzy) in his 4 over spell. During this spell he did produce an absolute jaffa to bowl Jennison off stump, so enraged was Jennison in getting out he redesigned the away changing room with some fancy holes in the wall. Then entered Fletcher who after looking at couple of balls took it upon himself to destroy the attack from the school end smashing it to all corners. One chance once given by Fletcher whilst he was on 30 but the habit of dropping teams star men continued, not to say we would have gone on to win then but we'll never know. It has to be said that Carl hit some of the biggest sixes ever seen at Warley in his knock of 63 no. The highlight of the innings though had to be Raufy's impression of a juggler at billy smarts circus, Nathan Madden lobbed one up in the air to mid off to Raufy, it's any ones guess how many times Raufy actually caught the ball, then dropped it and then caught it anywhere from 5 to 10 has been mentioned, I suppose the main thing was he did hold on. Warley a miserly 104 all out Triangle 105 for 4. back to top

Sowerby Street Peters - Parish Cup

Well we made parish cup history by being involved in the first ever Parish Cup bowl off. Earlier we had struggled to a very modest score of 157, this was mainly due to a blistering end to the innings from Raufy 2 heads with an unbeaten 48, 2 heads as Raufy took one for the team after trying to pull one away, fortunately the brain cell is still intact. Inzy yet again won the toss and some what surprisingly with rain forecast decided to bat but to be fair we hadn't read the rules re rain and not realised the overs were reduced as in the league now. The batting order was juggled about a bit with the hope it may get us off to a bit of a flier, well it did everyone was flying around trying to get their pads on. Inzy was in great form again being involved in the run out of Luke, we worked that out to be only the 5 run outs he was involved in over the weekend. Inzy managed to hold the innings together from 40 for 4 to get to his 50 but no sooner had the cap come out for the collection than he was sat back in the pavilion, pads off. Word of special mention for Ben Atkinson making his first team debut at 14 he may have only made 4 but he hung around and didn't look out of place. We then had tea and the heavens opened, we thought that was it then as it looked to have set in, we were told the news re reducing overs and the runs required reducing. There were one or two funny moments whilst we were off the pitch sat in the changing rooms not doing much. Bridgey was so eager to get someones attention outside that he almost opened up the wound from the day before when Uzzy crusted him, as he smashed his head against the window, again luckily the brain cell is still intact. As boredom set in out broke a game of indoor cricket, as anyone who knows Warley CC we have huge changing rooms, NOT. The hardest part was trying to repeatedly explain the rules and then we almost had a casualty as the ball was smashed towards Oatsey perched in the corner, luckily it bounced above his head and Oatsey remained fast asleep in his corner. Mr Oats then woke up to hear comments about something Chunky had said Mr Oats reply was "Thought he always talked bulls#*t". Chunky was then also involved in a near fatal incident when pulling the covers on for the second time, he became entangled with a loose end of the covers and was on the verge of being swept off his feet and getting dragged along, unfortunately he managed to get himself free. It was then decided on the advice of Pin that our captain should now not be known as Ted but Inzy, due to his tremendous record this season of running between the wickets. With 23 overs remaining the rain baited again and we got on the pitch but Sowerby now only required 87 for victory, not a good result for us after clawing our way back into the game. Only 5 overs were possible when the rain started again and off we went, we had to wait until 20.05 for the game to be abandoned and the bowl off declared. Bridgey went 1st and was agonisingly close with both attempts 0-0, Coco up next again both close but not good enough Reece then dead eyed both attempts 0-2 advantage Sowerby, up stepped the wily old pro Oatsey, 2 more misses and a hit for Patrick, Raufy then also missed to leave Warley losing 3-0. back to top

Twenty - 20 Outlane Home

The toss was won by Coco and elected to bat, what a great decision as Warley amassed 229 for 4. Contributions from all Greg retiring on 50, Luke 48n.o, Chunky with a shocking 33 but an even more shocking innings of 20+ from Uzzy, Jimmy also clubbed 30 odd at the end of the innings. Outlane were then dismissed for 115 with a couple of overs to spare, Greg also opened up the bowling well taking a couple of wickets, unfortunately same couldn't be said for Chunky.Uzzy picked up a couple of wickets when he finally bowled straight and Mini Coops after a shocking start picked up 3 wickets. Good stuff boys home draw to SBCI in next round lets give our best to get to that finals day. back to top

Sowerby St Peters away

Ted....sorry now to be known as Inzy yet again won the toss and ignored the vice captain and chose to field but to be fair were not brilliant at either at the moment so which way do you go. The first 3 overs of the innings were highly entertaining from Sowerby's point of view with Standeven setting about destroying our overseas recruit with some lusty blows taking Chunky for 32 of his 2 overs. Uzzy then proceeded to bowl 2 no balls a wide, couldn't get his run up right, after 3 overs there was 42 on the board our usual good tight start. Greg (we need a nickname for Greg please post any suggestions) then came on for the bewildered Chunky, he pulled it around a bit just providing that 1 or 2 bad balls in the over which were getting punished, tough to bowl when you got a guy at the other end now seeing it like a beach-ball. Inzy had said that he would be chopping and changing the bowlers and after Buzzman had bowled ok going passed the edge a few times but he was replaced by the bowling all rounder Pinhead. Wasn't long before Pin was in the wickets again after actually holding a caught and bowled. Coco then replaced Greg after a 5 over spell and with the breakthrough some breaks were put on the scoring especially when Coco removed Standeven clean bowled with an inswinger. Schof then came into the wicket and I think he managed to get his £200 worth out of his bat by using every piece of it in clawing his way to 28, then came drinks and followed a moment of brilliance from Chunky. Chunky managed to get down and stop a lose ball from Raufy who had replaced Coco, then whilst on the floor gathered the ball got up and through down the stumps at the bowlers end, Schof must have then forgot how much his bat cost as he through it in the air in disgust with Brooky. Pin then claimed his 2nd victim trapping Clarke LBW, the umpire at square leg wasn't so sure though, claiming would have liked to have seen Hawkeye on that one, or words to that effect. In then came Gavin Hayes who like Standeven came in and from the off saw the ball like football. Oh but there is one thing which is missing from my report...the catches that were dropped, I think 4 possibly 5 in all we weighed this up and probably cost us in the region of 130 runs as Brook ended 70no and Hayes plundered his way to 63no. Not the best day Warley have had in the field for a long time as the ground fielding wasn't very special either.

In to bat we went with a change to the order with the Pinster declaring himself in no fit state to open the innings, up stepped Marshy to the plate in his first, 1st team appearance of the season, having not exactly set the 2nd team alight with his previous batting performances but it was like the Marshy of old....no actually it wasn't as he managed to single handily smash Schof out of the attack with some mighty blows, whilst dot ball Inzy carried on in his own little world. However the 2 openers put on over 100 for the 1st wicket, so perhaps Pin knew something we didn't. Marshy then perished bowled leg stump by Brook for a fine 71, although Marshy did try to convince Coco and Bridgey it was his off stump, later Marshy clarified yes it was his leg stump, I guess he just forgot he was left handed. In walked Chunky who it has to be said was not having one of his best day's....and it was just about to get worse with the curse of Inzy. First ball he plays a lovely shot in the covers region easy one off he sets shouting yes one, to his horror as he is half way down the track Inzy has the bat handle stuck up his nether region and one hand in the air "NO". Chunky about turned dived in to the crease but as last week the umpires finger was up faster than a shoot out at the ok koral. Chunky suffered a bit of chelping as he left the ground from players and spectators as he felt he had made his ground, topped Chunky's day off that. Pinhead was by this time enjoying his time in the sun and was feeding ideas to the vice captain as it was looking like Inzy had booked in for the night. Pin "think we need to get Greg in he's in form after last week" fair enough Pin Greg your 4 but boy did that pay off as Greg almost made it back to back 50 in the 1st's, truly now starting to look the part as a top order batsman. Jimmy then was given his chance at no's 5 spot, unfortunately he was triggered caught behind, very poor decision. Pin "think we should let Uzzy have a go" Buzzman your no's 6, Pin was obviously thinking of getting as much sun as possible in preparation for the forthcoming trip to Majorca with captain Inzy (hope Marshy sorted their customary double room). Uzzy then set about the bowling hitting Shcof for possibly the biggest six of the day over the trees by the nets, touch and go whether it was that or the one Hayes hit off Coco in last over both huge. Uzzy then holed out and the vice captain put his foot down and told Pin to get his arse to the crease, the score ended up on 223 for 5. back to top

Sowerby Bridge home

Im sure Ted wouldn't have known what to do this week had he won the toss again, well he didn't and we were asked to bowl. Bridgey was back in the team to test his dodgey pinky and he did test it, all ok now though as he can't feel a thing.
Didn't seem a bad thing when Chunky quickly removed the dangerous Helliwell, who we found out later was quite glad to back in the vacinity of the lav.
Things then quickly changed, Uzzy got his wish to open the bowling with Chunky from the scoreboard end, after 4 balls Uzzy's ankle was already beginning to trouble him as he disappeared for 4 and a six, bearing in mind he was getting his chance because Coco has suddenly forgotten how to bowl a good line and length, normally his trademark, here's hoping it comes back soon. After 3 overs Uzzy was replaced by Coco but he was again all over the place and his spell only lasted 5 overs before Pinhead was called in to action again. Chunky at the other end was bowling quick and was unlucky to see yet another chance go down at slip but not Coco he had been replaced at 1st slip by Oatsey who had early been shot by the infamous Warley sniper, taking out his calf muscle leaving him barely walking. Price for Bridge who has never ever scored any runs against Warley was proceeding to hang around and manage to shut his eyes and flay the odd boundary much to the kiwi's disgust. Uzzy then came on at the school end and his ankle immediately felt much better as he and Nolan began to tie the Bridge batters down. Oh but I have forgot the amazing piece of running from Whitehill whilst Coco was bowling, Coco had managed to string 3 dot balls together when after Price dobbed one down to short leg Whitehill decided there was a run, thankfully for us he kept running Price went nowhere, Bridgey ran round and as he's too old to pick the ball up booted it along the deck to Coco who calmly chucked to Chunky who was stood over the bowlers stumps to run Whitehill out.
Paul Smith then came in and proceeded to make things look extremely easy, until he flicked at a turning ball down the leg side as the shot was played we were waiting for it to hit the roof of the house but he only managed to flick it up in the air to The Doctor at square leg. Some good steady bowling then continued from Uzzy and Pin and Pin then picked up his second victim as he had Hudson LBW has to be said for the shot but the umpires finger was up quicker than a rat up a drainpipe, suddenly we were clawing our way back again. Whitehilll no's 2 then came in and made batting look very easy time for a change Greg turned his arm over and bowled a decent 4 over spell just the odd ball that was disappearing (happens to the best of us hey Chunky). Raufy then replaced Gregor and finally removed Price for 67 not the best knock you'll ever see but did Bridge a job. Wheelwright then proceeded to start smashing the ball to all parts, again never scored any run against us before. Raufy had bowled a good little spell and it was decision time leave Raufy on or put Chunky on who was available again, unfortunately Ted put Chunky on who wheelwright took an immediate fancy to, every time he pitched it up it disappeared. Pinhead was still wheeling away and then picked up the scalp of Roger "believe" Smith with a trademark pull to the leg side where captain marvelous made a very straight forward catch look extremely difficult. Special mention for Greg who had to come on and bowl the last over from the school end as chunky could not be trusted to bowl another as they may have got beyond 300 Gregor did very well and I think he only conceded the 2 runs.
The usual pair took to the crease but Pin is now trying to convince everyone he is a bowling/batsman no pin your just not getting any runs. Faced by pace from both ends Smurf & Roger the openers again struggled to come to terms or they bowled in better areas or maybe we should be knocking them off their line and length, what do i know im just a bowler. The doctor was the first to depart getting one that stuck in the pitch lifted and took the shoulder of the bat. Pinhead soon followed popping up a very tame catch to mid wicket 2 down with 40 odd on the board. Chunky and Ted were then fresh at the wicket and after a couple of overs Chunky started to show some of his class as a batter dispatching Smurf and Roger to all parts making batting look easy again. Then just as things were starting to look Rosy Chunky had a brain freeze charging down the wicket for a run when Ted was on the floor after trying to sweep Whitehill, needless to say Chunky never got close to getting back suddenly all the momentum was back with Bridge. Then unbelievably Ted ran himself out as well, instead of consolidating we were crumbling again through all our own doing. We then managed to make Whitehills trash he was throwing down look like he was Murali missing out on several full tosses (suprise suprise) Jimmy then managed to get a hold of one as he hit it straight to the fielder at mid off, oh dear. Gregor and Buzzman were then fresh at the crease together at 135 for 5 180 could have been a struggle but both played extremely well in seeing us to 180, although they both had a couple of lives they made the most of it. Special praise again to Gregor scoring his maiden first team 50 and im sure there are plenty more to come as he builds on this through the summer. Uzzy as usual blocked his way to 41 when he finally swung and missed one in trying to get to 50 but again a valuable knock to at least ensure a point haul. back to top

Booth away

No play due to rain and water hogs on the pitch

SBCI home

Ted started the day well by winning yet another toss and although after some pre toss discusions with his backroom staff Ted elected to bat.
Nolan and The Doctor led the way as per the norm and struggled to come to terms with the bounce and pace of the track and to be fair the openers bowling in good areas.
After 10 overs we had struggled on to around 23 for no wicket, the guys stuck in there and the runs began to flow....well from the Docs end anyway. When the spinner was introduced the Doctor batted him out of the match. With around 15 overs to go Pinhead finally fell for a well constructed 34.....putting our dot ball captain to shame. In came Ted but not for long as he tried to put bat to ball to get the score up to 180 as quick as possible, Ted trying to smash it over long on but hitting it straight to him..more gym time required me thinks. In came Chunky, who again did not hang around and looking for the big shots. Next to fall was the Doctor after reaching the magical 3 figures he could not add anymore becoming another victim of the impressive sykes from the scoreboard end. We managed to total what we thought was a respectable 207 the way the track had played and bowlers bowled.
Unfortunately SBCI got off to a flier with Jamie taking a particular liking to Coco's bowling...as a lot of batters are at the moment (i'll be back). Chunky bowled probably the quickest he has bowled yet and made the other opener and Potts look ordinary, especially when working over the league player Potts getting one to nip back which he attempted to leave but bowled him off his thigh pad. So as too often of late the scoreboard was flying but wickets were falling. There then was a discussion with Jamie and the umpire regarding Chunky running on the wicket which resulted in chunky getting a warning, poor play from Jamie that. This fired Chunky up but Jamie then proceeded to walk down the track and give chunky a bit of hammer but with quality shots. The turning point of the game then occurred just after Jamie had reached 50, the runs were only coming from one end and at 63 for 2 he presented a chance with a flat on drive which carried all the way to the scoreboard but the chance was spilled and basically that was the game. Pinhead produced another good tight spell and Uzzy with a good 6 over burst, Chunky again came back on and bowled with venom but we just gave too many runs away at the start. Jamie ended up retired 115 and played shots all around the ground offering just the one chance, Dan Keighley who looked like he couldn't hold a bat grew in confidence as he hung around and also produced some lusty blows to finish us off with 9 overs to spare. back to top

Jerr Lane home

Well Ted got us off to a great start winning the toss on a baking hot day and electing to bat, surely the right decision.
The innings got off to a steady start with some decent tight bowling but the pin and the Doctor still managed to pick up a few boundaries before pinhead was the first to fall.
The pitch was misbehaving at times putting doubt in the batters minds but the story of the innings was batters getting in and getting themselves out, not the wicket.
5 of the top order got past 20 and then got out, The Doctor, Luke, Ted and Chunky all looking pretty good at the crease but just when it looked like Warley were taking control someone got out.
Coming in at six the Warley Legend Oatsey then managed to add a bit of stability to the innings and with Coco coming in at 10 they managed to get the score past the 180 mark, eventually Warley being 187 all out with 2 overs remaining, 220-230 would have been a more par score.
Unfortunately the Jerr Lane innings got off to a bit of a flier mainly courtesy of some full pitched bowling from Coco which kept getting dispatched for four, after 5 overs the visitors were 48 for 1, Cunky getting the wicket to fall, should have had 2 but Coco shelled a sharp chance at 1st slip. Pinhead then came on for Coco to steady the ship and that he did as the Warley bowlers (pin obviously being a bowler now) began to turn things around. Chunky bowled a good aggressive 5 over spell which deserved more, he was then replaced by Uzzy, who himself bowled very well in this spell without luck but bowled tight. Pin was wheeling away at the other end and getting a further breakthrough as the batter couldn't resist anymore and tried to hit Pin straight back over his head for 6 but he was caught down at long off by Coco. Chunky (who by now is getting known as Chunky for a different reason due to the consumption of 500 chunky kit kats since he arrived in the UK) came back on and again steamed in and picked up another couple of wickets to get us right back in the game but whilst Lister was still batting it was going to be difficult (as he can actually bat) there no's 8 came in and had a good look at the 1st ball as he almost put his back out he swung that hard, looked like only matter of time before we would have him, unfortunately he managed to start connecting (somehow) and took the game away from Warley however, if we could get that 7th wicket 5pts would not be a total disaster. Pinhead was then gifted the simplest of caught and bowled by Lister but Pin manage to spill the catch and the extra point was gone, certainly no blame on Pin as he bowled 18 overs unchanged to get us back in the game claiming 2 wickets. A mention for Dan (Chunky) who picked up 4 wickets for 49 runs off his 12 overs. Poor result but we will have to come out fighting next week when it's bank holiday weekend and games Saturday, Monday.back to top

Blackley Away

Team news with Coco away on best man stag duties in Barcelona his older clone Bob Keywood stepped into his shoes as a like for like replacement in the bowling department. The report for this game is reliant on the scorebook and the good old fashioned word of mouth, especially as the scorebook is a mare to follow, I'm guessing Sue wasn't present. No idea who won the toss but Warley were the 1st in the field to have a bowl. From the man himself Bob bowled well but without any luck. The pro Chunky appears to have bowled well in his first spell with no joy, in the 2nd spell got a bit of tap whilst picking up a couple of wickets, plus point one was the last wicket to provide the chance of a 10pt haul. Keywood Jnr (Kevin) also managed to pick up a couple of wickets in his 7 over spell but the pick of the bowlers was Pinhead with the figures of 5 for 32 off 9 overs, good to see the Pinster among the wickets again long may that continue. So in went Warley to bat requiring 251 for victory and 10pts. Looks like Warley got off to a flier losing the Pin (obviously tired after his heroics with the ball) and big Al with only 9 runs on the board. Around this time is where I can't make head nor tail of the scorebook, so i'll do my best, in fact all I can really say is the biggest contributions came from captain fantastic Ted, The Doctor and mainly from the Chunky Kiwi (funny thought he was here for his bowling) good lad keep them runs flowing. My own instalment then is with 7 overs to go I received a text in Barcelona to say we were 207 for 7 Greg and Duckitt at the wicket and we didn't have a chance, text from Bob "conehead" Keywood. Word was Luke was struggling a bit and we were running out of time the next thing I get a text of Ted to say victory and 10pts get in, great effort at the end lads a very important 10pts.back to top

Twenty-20 Versus Old Crocs Home

After receiving a text in Barcelona the night before Coco was drafted in to captain the Twenty-20 team on Tuesday night, having only returned from the stag doo 3 hours before stumps, not feeling too cracky but needs must. Anyway the first thing I did was lose the toss, nothing new there but we were asked to bat, which I would have done anyway, even if it was just to get chunky to be quiet "bat Coco, bat Coco". In true Warley Twenty-20 style we got off to a flier, 7 for 2 after 2 overs, the second wicket being Chunky for a second ball 0 well that shut him up for a while anyway. Luke then settled in and looked the part crashing 10 boundaries in a retiring knock of 53 and wee needed that as we struggled at times putting partnerships together. The other main contribution with the bat was young Minky who held it together in the middle order with 22, mini Coops also needs a mention hitting a couple of late boundaries which pushed Warley passed the 150 to a total of 154 for 8. As the skipper wasn't feeling the best he let Chunky and Greg open the bowling hoping their pace may get us a few early wickets. Word had got around that their opening bowler was an Aussie, that managed to put a bit of fire in Chunky's belly, especially when he then called him a South African, Ha Ha. Chunky then made the Aussie look very silly with shear pace going passed the outside edge with nearly every delivery to the Aussie (need a few more to play in league against us). Kevin picked up the first wicket after bowling a few wides but he stuck in there with the wicket in his 2nd over. The captain then elected to give chunky 1 more over at the Aussie and it paid dividends as he finally managed to edge one through to Minky behind the sticks. After openers had then bowled 3 in their spell a change was made at both ends, on came Coco for Chunky and Raufy for Kevin. Coco then got a wicket in his first over with a good catch from Dom Oates, this was then followed by another in the second over with a shooter that bowled the dangerous Pearson. Runs were still steadily flowing but the wickets kept tumbling as well as Coco then in his 3rd over picked up another bowled victim with a straight full one. In the 4th over of his spell Coco was then on a hat-rick of bowled victims but it was kept out, Coco ending up with 5 for 31. Raufy also picked up a wicket but Old Crocs were always still in there with a shout the openers were recalled with the hope of ending the match early, Chunky couldn't manage a wicket but Greg (Kevin) with his last ball did with a great 1 over. Mini Coops leg spin had replaced Raufy and bowled a couple of good overs at the death and claiming a wicket, also worth a mention was the 1 over of Chinky, 1st ball going for 6 the skipper thought he had made an error but then only went for 11 in the over. Old Crocs eventually bowled out for 143 and Warley win a Twenty-20 game and play Outlane in the 2nd round.back to top

Oh it was nice to be back at Outlane in the sun, with the wind blowing through our hair (well most of the team) and the constant droning of those cars on the flaming motorway. Ted lost the toss but Outlane elected to bat Ted would have bowled anyway, things started very well Chunky and Craig opened the bowling as normal, Brennan claiming a caught and bowled in the first over, then Chunky claimed a scalp and then followed a run out courtesy of the legend that is Chris Marsh. So at 4 for 3 everything was looking good, Ted decided to take the opportunity to use all the bowlers, so after 8 overs Chunky was replaced by Duckitt and Brennan was replaced by Greg Keywood. To be fair a couple of their guys took the opportunity to have a go and enjoy themselves and not die wondering what if. I don't have the scoresheet in front of me so this from memory so apologies if I miss anything out. The pitch wasn't doing our pace bowlers any favours as there was no pace of the wicket. Whilst we continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals the bowling was not the best at times and although contray to other opinion the proper bowlers were on and as we know in cup cricket you need 5 bowlers. Greg showed us glimpses of what he can do in his 7 over spell with the ball and will get more opportunities to do so, all the bowlers Pin and Raufy also got a bowl. Outlane managed to muster a decent total of 173 before Chunky finally claimed the last wicket, all wickets were pretty much shared with no outstanding performance, although Brennan did only go for 9 in his 5 overs and 1 wicket.
In a way Ted at least got his other wish that the batters got some practice as well. Pinhead and The Doctor opened as usual and set about the task of knocking off the runs in great style both plundering boundaries but then Pin got a decent ball which he played forward to but the ball nipped back and took middle stump, don't see that too often with Pin. In came Duckitt with his chance at no's 3 again, meanwhile The Doctor was continuing to enjoy his time in the middle and soon Luke got into his stride helping himself to a few boundaries before getting bowled by one that kept a bit low. In came captain Ted who immediately made himself at home playing some fine boundary shots and not looking in any trouble. A change of bowling at the cliff top end produced the end of the Doctor as the captain of the under 13's for Outlane trundled in and John played around it and hit him on the boot gone lbw to send the lad on to cloud 9. Chunky then came in to join the skipper at the crease and after a bit of a nervy start soon started to show why he could possibly be Warley's next no's 3, not just my opinion. Both batters continued to plunder 4 and sixes with Ted going past the 50 mark for the first time this season. Chunky was looking good to follow his skipper until he got carried away ans skied one and was caught out in the 40's. Jimmy came in to see the game out with the skipper with 13 overs to spare...well done the batters... next round home to Sowerby St Peters so come on lads lets have a cup run.back to top

Bradshaw - home

Well another fine summers day greeted us as we arrived at the ground (NOT). The Bradshaw lads were having a bit of a moan and groan before the game even got under way, seeming to have a few concerns over the state of the wicket but we all know at Warley it can look the worst wicket in the world but usually plays good. So with this in their minds Bradshaw won the toss and elected to field, as the track was going to do all sorts and roll us over cheaply. Well after losing Nolan in the first over to a caught and bowled by Si Collins the signs weren't that good. Raws at the other end started of in good fashion and looking in good nick, striking some useful early boundaries. The fall of Nolan brought in young Luke Duckitt, again looking good on the front foot and getting off the mark with an imperious drive. Then Luke looked to flick one off his legs only to Nick it on to his thigh pad, the ball hung in the air and smartly caught at short leg by Turner. That brought to the wicket captain Ted, Ted and Raws put on a bit of a partnership, Ted having 2 lives after being given not out when caught at slip, decision coming from square leg umpire (Barry) eventually Ted fell to C Shannon caught behind for 26 but in true Ted fashion he waited for the umpires finger. So 3 down with roughly 60 on the board but the wicket not playing any part in the wickets. In came the Kiwi how would he fair facing the left arm spin of Collins from the off, Dan "CHUNKY" Temm was very watchful to start with and needed to be to build a partnership with Raws who was holding things together at the other end. Chunky then fell lbw to Collins for 10 again showing promise and I'm sure a lot more to come with the bat from the big Kiwi. In came Jimmy with a very important roll to play as Warley were rocking a bit, especially when Raws managed to Nick one onto his pads and was triggered lbw for 40. Suddenely Warley were in danger of not even getting to 140 for 2 bonus points. Uzzy was next in to partner Jimmy, Uzzy pushed up the order following his recent exploits with the bat. Sure enough after having a look for a couple of overs he didn't fancy pushing Collins back anymore, after missing out on a full toss it was easy to see what was coming next. Big shot straight down the ground but caught just inside the rope under the trees. At this point Warley were 6 down for not so many, in came young Greg Keywood (starting to resemble his dad more and more on the pitch with his manor isms game by game). Greg and Jimmy put together a decent partnership, Jimmy playing the role the best he has for a long time working the 1's and 2's and Greg starting to look at home batting in the first team. Greg played some excellent shots including a six over the changing rooms before being adjudged harshly lbw to Collins, Jimmy also then fell lbw to Collins 1 of 4. Raufy then came into his own with the bat providing some lusty blows towards the end to get Warley to a below par score of 169 all out.
Chunky Temm opened the bowling with Craig Brennan the trusted opening partnership now but as in the previous game the batsmen got off to a bit of a flier, with every offline ball going for a boundary. A very good shout for lbw against Cotton was turned down, which was very disappointing considering some of the decisions in the first innings but he would make amends later. The next ball took off Bridgey knocked the bails off via his gloves, chest and chin but amazingly the umpire (Barry) said Bridgey had knocked the bails off with his gloves, poor decision again. The next ball Cotton decided it was going out off the park but nicked it through to Bridgey stood up taking a great catch. Chunky was getting a decent head of steam up at the other end, although managing to lose control of his legs at one point and looking like Bambi on ice, at time he was looking far too quick but just the odd ball in the over letting him down but then he produced a good quick one which kept a little low on C Shannon to remove his off stump. This reduced Bradshaw to 20 for 2 and bringing to the wicket Bradshaws best player Si Collins who in the first innings had taken 7 for 65 and bowled through. Having got rid of Cotts who has been a Thorn in Warley's side in the past it would be good to get Si early as well another who has put us to the sword in the past. An early shout for lbw again from Brennan was turned down again but then 2 balls later the finger went up, although there was a clear inside edge, as Pinhead said in another one of his huddle outbursts "he's been f*c#ing due that" referring back to previous decisions not going Warley's way against Collins. Turner the other Bradshaw opener then decided to have a go striking a couple of lusty blows, Chunky then finished his first spell 7 over 1 for 25 and was replaced at the school end by Buzzman. Brennan the claimed his 3rd wicket of the day bowling Turner with one that again kept a bit low, no real demons in the pitch. Brennan then ended his spell 8 overs 3 for 39 and replaced by Pinhead hoping a change of pace would continue to pick us up wickets. Uzzy then picked up his first wicket which brought dean Cotton and Becky to the wicket another one who has been a Thorn in Warley's side in the past, the 2 put together a good partnership. Whilst Uzzy not bowling at his best (and creating his own pavement pizzas on the boundary edge) he managed to produce a gem of a delivery to clean bowl Dean Cotts, we were now back in the game but the incoming batsmen all hung around getting valuable runs. Raufy had replaced the Pin at the scoreboard end and bowled a great line and length to put the pressure on the Bradshaw batsmen, he chipped away getting the big wicket of Becky lbw then clean bowling another 2 but yet Bradshaw were in sight of the finishing line as they always had overs in the bag. Chunky (by the way this is in reference to the amount of chunky kit kats gets through) came back on at the school end and whilst bowled a great line if the top order was in, it needed to be a lot straighter to the tail enders, Dan ended up bowling 14 overs which he told us at the end is the most he has bowled in a game, don't worry Chunky can't see it being the last either. A mis-calculation by the skipper meant that with 3 overs to go Chunky had bowled his 7, immediately Duckitt was called upon and with his 2nd ball he got the no's 11 to try and pull him to the boundary but the ball was on him too quick and he popped the ball up to Chunky to give Warley there first win of the season by 6 runs and 10 points as well...Good effort all round lads.back to top

Mytholmroyd - away

Start of the day the vice captain was greeted with a call to advise him that the team already decimated by absentees was now suffering a further one. Dave (conehead1) Atkinson had, had an unsavoury incident with a pair of mannequins, he had taken a tumble down a grass slope with the mannequins and aggravated an old war wound in his shoulder and would not be available to play. Ted was frantically trying to contact conehead2 (Bob) to seek words of wisdom on a replace, but there could only really be one to replace conehead1 and that man was the man mountain Big Al. So with a team missing young Chris Atky (for the season now due to Hudds Town football commitments), Uzzy, Jimmy, Marshy (allegedly shopping with Amy) and then conehead1 we were hoping for a good solid team effort to get us through the match.
Ted got us off to a good start and won the toss and elected to bat, his thoughts were swayed by Internet reports that there were showers forecast from around 4pm (how bloody right they were). The game started off in true 20-20 style with both opening bowlers Temm and Brennan getting charged at and getting at bit of stick. The score was roughly 40 odd for none off 4 and the ball disappearing to various parts of the ground but the bowlers always felt there was a wicket to be had anytime.
Sure enough Brennan(Coco) made the breakthrough clean bowling one of the openers, the young Kiwi Dan Temm then struck as well and then again as the Mytholmroyd batters continued to plat in 20-20 fashion, always looking to give us a chance. Dan then got the Mytholmroyd batter to play away from his body and offer a chance to Ted at gully, Finally Ted decided to have a go at catching it and made a very easy catch look really good by diving forward full length to take the catch. Young Dan finishing his 7 over burst with 3 for 40 odd great effort again Dan, still much more to come. Brennan to continue to plod away at the other end and started to have some joy with inswing and seam movement off the pitch, his second victim was that off Lord with a full inswinger which bowled him middle and leg, always a big wicket as can be a very dangerous hitter of a ball when he gets going.
Young Greg Keywood(Kevin) then replaced the Kiwi, unfortunately Greg struggled to find a rhythm in his bowling and went for a few, again it's still early day's and I'm sure Kevin will come good. Meanwhile Brennan was still dobbimg away at the other end and managed to pick up 2 wickets in an over, another key wicket of Zebby(saagra) both again clean bowled, all be it one of the pads. On came Raufy for Greg who did what he does best line and length not offering the batter any freebies, this spell was to get through the overs to enable Dan(Kiwi) to get back on and mop up the tail. Unfortunately he never got the chance as Coco proceeded to get the remaining wickets required to wrap up the innings, clean bowling Halstead to wrap up the innings. Coco ending up with figures of 7 for 35 of 13 overs and I have it on good authority that he has never clean bowled 7 batsmen in an innings before (usually struggles for one).
Then those 4pm showers arrived, only I thought showers meant it stopped and then started again, well it didn't it just kept raining, well barely spitting at times but apparently a new umpire directive states that it has to COMPLETLY stop raining before taking the field, once the Mytholmroyd captain knew this every time there was a chance of getting on it was stated "it's still raining, we can't go on in this" can't really blame him the position his side was in, somewhere in this new ruling it states about common sense non of this was used by the umpires. Pinhead and Big Al had got the innings under way, Big Al with a four of Earl and a usual majestic shot from the Pin for four before the The Mytholmroyd captain cried rain and within the flash of an eye the umpires has the teams of.
It has to be said great work from Pinhead to buy us a bit more time as the umpires got the timings totally wrong for when we had to be back on the pitch in order to get a result but it wasn't to be and an early shower was taken by all. Comment from Ted after the game in the bar after the no result felt like a loss but there were positives to take from the game i.e. bowling a team out and getting a chance of 10 pts, a bowler taking 7 wickets for Warley not happened for a while, Kiwi bagging 3 wickets and Raufy coming on to bowl good tight spell. 4 points gained but surely this would have been turned in to a 10point haul which have been few and far between of late. come on boy's take heart I'm sure our luck will change soon.back to top

Thornton - home

Well what a lovely sunny day to start off the cricket season...shame the result darkened the day.

With captain Ian (Ted) Shaw at the helm for his first full season, he started off well by winning the toss and electing to bat. Pinhead (Nolan) and The doctor (Raws) opened up the innings. Pinhead soon was in to his stride striking some great boundry's. The Doctor was the first to depart playing on whilst playing a forward defensive.
In strode Ted looking very elegant as usual but not looking his Fluant best as he was trying to get to grips with some good tight bowling from Harris and Dimbleby. Ted then wafted at a wide one outside off stump and the catch was taken at gully. Nolan meanwhile was continuing to pick up regular boundries to keep his score ticking along.
Next in was Warley's New Zealand recruit Dan Temm, his first ball in English cricket, stroked away for four, swiftly followed by another 3. He was making things look very easy but then chased one outside off stump and got a good thick edge which saw the keeper take off to his right and take a great one handed catch, Mr Temm can consider himself very unlucky but im sure there are plenty of rund to come for young Dan.
In came Jimmy Sarwar unfortunatley Jimmy didn't hang around too long, neither did the next 2 batters Luke and Greg but again we hope to see plenty more of them through the season. While this was all going on Pinhead continued the scoring at his end looking to guide his team to a decent score. We were hoping at one stage for 210+ but these quick wickets were putting paid to that.
Rauf then came in for his Warley debut, at times he resembled a muskateer rather than a batter there was that much swishing going on but he hung around to put on a decent parnership with Noley. When Rauf fell this brought to the wicket Uzzy (Buzzman) Saghir with only 4 overs of the innings left 180 was looking a long way off especially as Uzzy likes to tell us he needs 2 overs to get himself in. Well from the off he staerted to plunder the ball to all parts in a very quickfire 28 and courtesy of their player dropping him off the las t ball he got us to 180 but a very below par score.
Our stint with the ball got off to a great start with Craig (Coco) Brennan bowling Hutchinson for 0 and then Uzzy removing the other opener after a fine catch in the gully by the kiwi. Things were looking rosy as we had them 13 for 2 just the start we were after. Following Uzzy's stint he was replaced by Dan (Kiwi) after getting his first over he settled down to bowl at a very decent pace, in fact too quick for the slip who put one down as it flew to his left reactions only quick enough to get a thumb on it. Then Dan claimed his first English scalp, courtesy of a difficult chance (not) to Ted.
Then the bowling change from the scoreboard end paid immediate dividends as pinhead claimed the wicket of Shanks (Elise finally giving an LBW). Then the slip was in action again dropping another chance of Dan which went sharp to the right (sorry Dan one will stick eventually) all in all a good first spell for Dan. Buzzman came back on the scene and produced some pace and another wicket to give us some hope but some lusty blows from Dimbleby brought the game to quick end.

Not the best start but im sure the young lads will produce the goods and we will come good through the season. back to top
